I touched it, to see if it was still among the living and it unfortunately rewarded me by pulling in all it's tentacles like a ball and shooting out a thin tentacle more than double the length of the normal ones and as thin as a hair. Just waving at me. Now he looks like he's doing fine, all his tentacles are puffed up and back to normal. I should have left it alone to shrivel.
