| Is this a mushroom? If so what kind? Im not exactly sure what this is. It came on a rock i got. The guy said he had seen in for a long time, but it never did anything. Since i have put it in my tank, its been opening and growing, and another one has sprouted up right next to it as well. Guess it pays to have decent lighting. lol
I know the pix are horrible, had my sister take them really quick. If better pics are needed let me know.
Any idea what this is?
Thanks |

from the pics that you've provided it "appears" to be a simple common brown "button polyp" ( zoanthid )
if another popped up beside it ' thats a good thing ! _________ Wildreefs 220 Tank Journal |

| Looks like a zoa, good for you (if you wanna keep softies that is)!! I just added several clusters to my tank, I like them and my wife likes the "flowie things" too! Anything to keep her interested in the tank!! If light and water quality are good you'll be fragging them off before you know it!! _________ 55 gallon slowly growing reef aquarium, 85 lbs. live rock, 2 1/2" sandbed, 1 False Percula Clown, 1 Sixline Wrasse, Tetratec PF500 filter, 2 110 watt URI Super Actinic VHO actinics, 2 250 watt metal halides with Reef Optix 2 reflectors powered by Blue Wave 3 ballast, born 1/3/08 My Tank Thread My Tank Video |

| Guys i think youre right. Yeah sorry the pix sucked. Looking closer, i can see the edges of the polyp have little rough fringes/start of tentacles or whatever they may be called. They are a welcome addition right now to my tank right now so hopefully all goes well and they grow nicely like youve mentioned.
I have a 175w MH pendant w a 14k bulb. The water quality isnt bad for a noob.
Second little sprout wasnt even showing up 2 weeks ago and is already 1/2 the size of the other one. ;-)
Thanks guys |

| Nice score! When I purchase LR , I like to look for those little goodies(and bad stuff). I'm pretty particular about LR, I like to pick out pieces with healthy coralline and extra little things like button polyps. I bought a piece with about 3 buttons on it and have quite the colony now. I hope yours do the same. |

| Several weeks ago I bought a BTA on a rock. On the back side of it it had 3 small brown things that looked like Zoanthids, but not sure cuz they look different from some other ones I have. They've the same type stalk, but the disc has little 'fingers' if you will on the disc and I dont mean just on the fringe. My other Zoas have long tentacle type things just on their fringe whereas these brown ones look similar save for the short stubby 'tentacles' across the disc....Also, the brown ones (now) are bigger in circumference.
Same thing as posted in this thread???
