Hmmm? they sure dont look like apstisia to me and if they are, they are good looking in color for apstitia |

Thanks. Does anything eat them like the shrimp do to aiptasia?

They say that peppermint shrimps eat them, but I have never seen that. Not to mention, you have to strave them first. Best remedy is Joe's juice or lemon/lime juice(cheaper) will do the trick. Coral Reefer is correct. They are anemone majano and they are more difficult to get rid of than aiptasia. Peppermint shrimp will not eat them. I once tried a Copperband butterfly fish to control them but it didn't touch them. Using Joe's Juice and/or "feeding" them kalkwasser paste may work. Best thing to do is to remove whatever rock, shell, etc., that they're growing on if that is an option. If you are able to do that, do NOT put the rock back into the tank unless you give it a good bleach soaking first (which will essentially kill everything on the rock, including bacteria and coralline). | |

Thanks guys (and gals) for your help IDing the beast.
That pic was from a friends tank. He bought it from someone 3 months ago. It had been established for 5 years though at the time of purchase.
Those majano anemone's are everywhere. He didn't see any when he first got it, but when I looked in yesterday and saw his tank it made me suspicious. I hadn't seen anything like that before. He has them on every rock, at least 10 on every rock in a 40 gallon tank.
I will admit, they look nice in the tank. Do they keep other corals from growing? He has a giant toadstool and two different kinds of mushrooms in the with them. I also noticed that one of them was attached to the toadstool. I'm assuming it could end up hurting the toadstool in the long run though. What do you think? | |

They are the equivalent to weeds in a garden. They will suffocate anything in their path in order to ensure their survival.

What a ugly little patch of "weeds" you have there...
Get after them with Joe's Juice...It will knock any kind of anemone of any size down.

Good luck. | And what they don't suffocate, they will sting to death. When I had them, I found that soft corals such as leathers weren't terribly affected by them but SPS corals can't tolerate them at all. | |
