Default stopping the siphon

well, i guess it is good that this happened now, befor my tank is up, but in the last 4 days i have had 3 power outages :'(

my power is pretty stable normally only out once every 2 years or so, but the idea of finding my room bathed in saltwater is less than appealing

i am looking for a simple reliable solution (cheap would be nice) that does not include drilling glass

does your return pipe go over the side of your tank?

If so just drill a hole in the return just below the water line.

This will work on any return pipe going into the tank.
Drill right at water line or just above it and have hole point towards the waters surface.
This will allow air into the return pipe that stops the siphon of water back to sump.

Are you talking about the intake being upside down?
On the megaflow tank as this picture shows I personally would not know if it works or not.
Is the output line also under water?
On the intake going to the sump just how far down in the water is that U tube?
And where is your normal water line in the sump?

You could but a couple of check valves and use thoses.

I think that this is how this setup would work. But I am unsure as I have never used a setup like this.

I'm confused Ice, do you have one of those AGA overflows you pictured here? If so, by their design, they won't flood.

Edit: Oh Fletch posted that.. jeez I'm sober too, anyway, yeah keeping it above the waterline will prevent back siphoning. Glad to help.
