THIRSTYCREW is on a distinguished road

Default Refugium Or Protein Skimmer

Well I was going to remove the bio-balls that came with my tank and do one of 2 thing's 1st: build a refugium in the chamber 2 for the bio-cube 29g, but wated to know what you guys though. Also every one keep's telling me that the bio-balls need to go anyway's...ther not fo SW and do more bad then good, and live rock should take it's place...is this true? The 2nd: would be the CPR SR3 protein skimmer for the biocube 29 aquarium. So I need help on which would one would benfit me. If you can ONLY PICK ONE which 1 would it be?

id use a skimmer on the cube its kinda small and if something crashes out a skimmer will do you more good.although you might have it drilled and add a fuge also.get the best of both worlds.

My system includes a wet-dry cpr sump with live rock replacing the bio-balls. I also have a refugium connected. I use 0 mechanical and 0 chemical filtration. Being that the chamber you are thinking of using(live rock instead of bio-balls) is an instsnt fuge/mini-sump. I'd recommend a skimmer with the set-up. So, basically the only filtration my system has is macro, sand, live rock and skimmer. Phosphates and nitrates have never been a glimmer of an issue. Will this chamber get lighting for macro?

I had my nano 12 drilled and added a fuge. That's where I kept my skimmer. Mostly did it because of heat issues, but also helped with adding larger water volume....
