Default mini refuge

im thinking about taking a 2.5 gallon glass tank and making it in to a fuge for my 10 gal tank. and make a "mini model" of a big tank. would this be practical or worthless?

it would work. Just get that 2.5 gal, have some light, sand and slow water flow in it. Put some chaeto or calurpa, and your good to go!

Same here. I added a large hob filter just to add some more water volume for my 5.5.... I don't think its worthless...Some people thought my 10gal sump on my 12 gallon nano dx was worthless. It was the best thing I ever could of done for my nano cube....

im thinking drilling the return line in the back or side of the filter so i still can use the carbon cartridges and just using the little pump on the HOB to keep the siphon going. i already have a spare submirsable pump for the return... any one have any other ideas or suggestions?

I used a mini-jet in my sump. It worked out great... Unless you put the down tube somewhere else, I don't know if the water level will be high enough to make it over the baffle in the hob... Heck, I'm pretty new also.. Hope it works out...

You will need an overflow to bring water to sump/fuge.........cant use the intake from a HOB filter, as it will not pull the same amount of water the return pump will........
