Hi I am going to be picking up a new 30 gallon tank to build my new refugium sump . My question is if the tank does not say "do not drill" can I assume that it is ok to drill? Are certain brands not meant to be drilled. I am going to be making 2 holes one for my input of water and one for my skimmer.

Ive recently drilled 2 Aqueon (All-glass) tanks. One was a 20 gallon tall (for my sump), the other was a 36 gallon bow front (for display). Both went without hitch...there were no warning stickers on either of them saying not to drill.

BTW, if you haven't bought the glass bits yet, check out ebay. I bought both of mine for $23 shipped, and got them 2 days after I ordered them!

Typically only the bottom pane is tempered.

Just curious why are you drilling a hole for your skimmer?

Some of the tanks from Walmart are tempered on all sides also.

this is what I was thinking too. I have 3 sumps in my house, none of which are drilled. i can see drilling for external pump but that's about it.

I drill mine because it is the best location for my auto top off float valve.
