Default diy surge device

Has any body ever tried a DIY surge device like this? I want to try it. I have a 5 gal container to use, but I am not sure what size pipe to go with. It will be going on my 90 gal tank. any opinions????

I haven't tried it, but I have read a lot about it. Check out the 'links library' from the top or bottom menu. I posted a couple bucket surge plans there in the DIY section. [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

I've used them on many systems, I need to pack an order, then I'll fill you in on the in's and outs of the carlson surge device. I've used Borneman's tiolet plunger surge device too.

I've found 1" works, but 1 1/2" is where its at. I've use them both (sizes) on a tank for side to side motion. The 1 1/2 would be a big rush and the 1 would be a prolonged smaller rush.

I like it, it the opposite of what you asked. Very low bubbles, if any, and very little noise (except for the float I made, but that kink could get worked out easily).
