Default DIY Sump need advice

Hello there,

I am a totaly new-be in this reef world.
My wife gave me this 55 Gal tank with the skimmer and filter (emperor 400).
Since those devices hang on the tank, its kind a "ruin" the view. I would like to make a sump underneth.
I search/surf on internet (including this forum) and i came up with this sump.

I apreciate all the advice(s)

hope you don't mind but I edited your post so your image would show.

I'm of the mind set that both BioBalls and the Filter pad are not necessary. But other than that it looks good. the baffles are playing another role in this sump and they are forcing all the evaporation to the section with the return pumps this is a good idea as you want to maintain a consistant level in the skimmer section. also a auto top off system can be used to ensure the water level never falls

Thank you for the advice, I really appreciate it.

About the Filter pad, is it bad ? or its no point?
I am concern with bacteria "live" there.

My tank is 55G 8 small fishes ( 2 PJ Cardinal, 1 Coral Beauty, 1 Hippo Tang,
1 fire fish, 1 clown, 1 Banggai, 1 Gramma) 3 coral, 1 mushroom and some blue leg hermit. 45G LR

Coralife Aqualight 2x 65 watt 10.000 K, 2x 65 watt Actinic 03 and 4x 3/4 Watt moon light.

I got this tank on last month, Nov 28 and week after that i received LR and today the tank fully cycled (Ammo, Nitrite and nitrate more or less 0)

Yeah i dont have patience and thanks God none of them die.

I realy want thbis reef succses and i need more that enough support from all of you.

regards,

dydot.

I just complete a Sump/Refugium project for my 55 gal. I went big with a 30L tank so that I would be set up for a display tank upgrade later on ( 125, 150 gal etc.). Check out this thread as it may help you get started with ideals. I went with a HOB remora aqua C skimmer in my sump because that is what is in my system now. Later I will upgrade to a bigger Remora and mount it right beside the sump. I have plenty of room because all my equipment is in a adjacent room to my tank.
DIY Sump/Refugium advice...Measurement help???
Hope it help!
