Cool, how did you get it to not be to powerful. I used an old filter also and the power was to much. It kept blowing everything around.

The pump is what I meant. Did you slow the flow at all? My filter was a whirl wind inside until I put in a false wall. something to deflect the water.

here's what i did today i took the blue filter pads and removed the blue stuff and the carbon leaving just the plastic piece.

    making the cut

    almost there

this is when i thought a razor blade would work better than a knife and sicssors

    i was right

    Carbon removed also

the edges in the filter only fit in one spot with the groves so i cut the outter edge out

    the outter edge cut

    the fit

notice i left the peices for thr bio wheels there

glued the bio wheel peice so the gauard would stay in place

cut every other peice for more flow

    the bio wheel peice

have to give credit to where credit is due Thank you Cat4wisson
o doing this also reduced the flow alot so much that i had to cut some of the slots as seen above

No problem, keep us posted on how well the cheto grows and if your pod population increases very much. I have the same filter and even with a fuge have thought about doing the same thing to help out feeding my mandarin.

    Nice mod

if this works... i have the same filter pretty much... and I do want a mandarin... and my tank is older now... I might do this in another month or two...

so what's the idea with that? you put in some chaeto, dump in a bottle of pods and then they just multiply in the chaeto and overflow out? And they just reproduce in there and that's it?

I like this idea DR Cool. Following this thread so I'll see any future updates ;)
