DIY Fishtrap

Saw this on another forum and copied pics for right time to post here...

I once tried the bottle trap without any success for larger fish. Resorted to fishing line/hook but took lots of patience and could be harmful to fish.

This looks pretty failsafe and much more effective:

Well, my experience was slightly different. I took one of those little plastic tank "thingys" from the LFS and drilled a hole in the lid and front. I threaded fishing line through the front and tied it to the lid. The current within the tank kept pushing the lid closed so I had to use a few pieces of rubble to weight it down. You can also see the 1/4" tubing I used to funnel food into the trap.



Now, tangs are ridiculously easy to catch; put any food in there and they will swim into it. However, angels and dwarf angels are a little bit more skittish and untrusting so even with food inside, it would not venture in...and it did not for a few days!

I left the trap in the tank for a few days without feeding the fish. Then on the third day I took a chunk of Sander's Frozen Food and rubber banded it to a piece of rubble. It took about 10 minutes, but eventually the Coral Beauty went in and with a pull of the string I caught the Red Sea Sailfin, the Foxface, and the targeted fish.

Cool! I dont even own a fish net. I have only needed to take out a chromis before and did it with a large ziplock back with the hard plastic end cut off. ;D
