sorry if i missed something its a very long thread, but how much did all that cost? i am on a very limited budget of strictly chore money and the 7 dollars an hour from the lfs. and i am interested in doing this

haha i have been, ive got 275 right now im hoping its not much over 500. im trying to get my parent to help like yeah it takes half the electricity so no high bills anymore but they werent having it haha

Maybe i just over read the posts, but what is the color temp on the white bulbs?? 6500k? or higher?

Per the CREE data sheet, XP-G cool whites are 5000-8300k. However, you can't compare this number to, say, MH bulbs.

A fixture? Yes.
A performance comparable fixture? No.

Fixture, or an LED quantity for a DIY build?

I'd do 24 LEDs if it was me.

As for a fixture, there's so many different ones on the market, both good and bad, that I couldn't even begin to comment without a dissertation.
