Yep, theres plenty a room. i haven't stained the outside yet, i have to wait for the putty thats covering the nail holes to dry. Im trying to decide weather it should be dark, or light. apparently, pine doesn't stain to well, so i shall try a few on some offcuts to see what looks good.

cheers.

Consider the decor of the room it's going into and the hinges you have installed,,,
The wood and hinges would go great with a SouthWestern type Decor, stain the wood light or just polyurethean it,,,
For all other types of Decor match it with the wood in that room,,,
I used Red Oak, light redish stain in a SouthWestern decor,,,
There is a Pic. in my Album...
You did a Great job on that stand, Master Carpenter, LOL...

Shrimp man,

Seeing that you a fellow Melburnian, here's a tip for staining pine.

Use spirit based stain, not water based, in the colour of your choice. half fill a small container with some Mineral Turps and add a small dash of the stain. Apply that with a paint brush to your scrap piece of timber to test.

When you get a colour about half the depth you want start painting the cabinet, again with a paint brush using the diluted stain. Wipe over only occassionally.

You might need to do this twice depending on the depth of the colour you want.

By dulting the stain before applying you dont get the dark marks which often happens when staining pine hence the suggestion above.

Also I would suggest painting the inside with a high quality exterior house paint in bright white

John

ps, where in Melbourne are you?
