Default Are You Ready for the Summer?

And no, I'm not singing the theme song to:

I'm talking about getting ready to deal with elevated temps in your tank(s)! Tangster and I usually run the A/C all summer and have fans built into our hood and near the sump to blow the cool air over the water surface. We change our lighting cycle so that the lights come on in the late afternoon and go off in the wee hours of the morning. We put a few 2 liter bottles of water in the freezer to float in the sump and have battery powered air pumps just in case we lose power and can't run the A/C.

I also found some other great ideas on GARF's website so read up and be prepared!

I'm ready. Just programmed the Neptune Aqua controller III so that it turns on and off fans as well as the lights as the temperatures change. Plus I can now monitor it from work :-) and I get emails when there are drastic changes. I also this weekend moved all water flow going to the sump to run along the surface to create more surface tension and greater evaporation. (just added a little more noise but well worth it).

Thumbs up

Great thoughts/ideas.

We in PNW do not generally have to worry about too much heat except for a few days or couple of weeks in summer.

AC checked out, ready to go.

DC computer fans not working in sump/tank... will work on this PM.

Like the idea of going into reverse cycle with lights --- day off/evening-night on.

Will put some water filled soda bottles in freezer.

Generator always on standby if needed.

Thanks for advice.

Scott

I do like that idea of doing light cycle different.

I am ready I have two fans one blowing across sump (running 24/7) and one blowing across tank top only on when lights are on.

I am just starting a nano and I am really worried about temp this summer (anyone with good tips with nano tank setups)

but overall I am ready for the summer heat.
