Most people will tell you to get rid of the mantis if there are fish in the tank that you want to keep. I fro one love those shrimp and have one is an acrylic tank. I keep a few damsels in the tank with it so if it gets hungry there is food swimming around. It ate one the other day, well actually half of one. It looked like it was cut in half with a knife. I had one before that hit a goldfish right between the eyes and crushed it's head. Then I found out that it shouldn't be fed gold fish, supposedly gives them liver failure. Either way they sell traps to get them out and I am sure some of the people on the boards know other ways. just don't try to grab it. VERY NASTY!!

If your snails or hermit crabs start disappearing and you find shell fragments you probably have a mantis shrimp. I had 2 and caught them in a piece of live rock, i dipped therock in fresh water and they popped right out. I ended up feeding them to my puffer.
