| What Would Be The Result Of...... What would be the result of using a Phos-band 150 reactor
filled with A.R.M. and a pump? Would that be a good thing or not? Or fill it half way with Seachem's De-Nitrate and A.R.M.? What Im trying to build is a DIY Korallin Bio-Denitrator S 1502 .
Any comments? | well i think that denitrate stuff is sulphur based so would create bad smells, but the ARM?
Im not to sure what that is, but normally with sulphur based denitrators they have charcoal/carbon in them to neutralize the Sulphur smells and acidity before the water returns to the tank. If arm is the same as that then it could work. _________ |

| Tangster is running a sale on denitrators. It would basically cost the same and it's already built. _________ Curt |

| Is the coil doing the Job ? If so then just keep that , ARM will do you no good at all and as for the Seachem's De-Nitrate product in theory it would work to a point But they just send out a very porous little stone and the theory is that anaerobic bacteria will colonize inside the rocks/pebbles and do the same job that people where sold on with their L.Rock ..
Problem is in that reactor or your fish tank you can not get the area anaerobic enough less you kill the tank. Thats the short coming of a DSB and then they went to dosing sugar carbons to artificially expand the bacterias numbers to reduce NO3's Any area for these bacteria can not ever be exposed to U/V light or any strong light and the darker the area the better. So I'd doubt you would see nay benefits as a denitrater and the ARM would totally just be a waste of money and time. Unless you shoot some CO'2 in there.
Are you having carbonate issues ? _________ Some of the world's greatest feats were accomplished by people not smart enough to know they were impossible (Doug Larson) |

Are you having carbonate issues ? | The only "issue" that I have is my ph can never go over 8.0. My DKH is 12.8 and the rest of the numbers are fine. I really dont understand why my ph is an issue. I have tried just about everything to no avail. How come the Korallin Bio-Denitrator uses A.R.M. in this unit? They state that it buffers the ph after the water passes through it. Have you read the their statements? Luna
BTW, I dont have the coil denitrator hooked up yet. |

| Making a coil denitrator is realitivly simple
( only hard part is wrapping all that flexible tubing into "a" cylinder. )
Most times people underestimate the size of tube ( how many bio-balls you can fit into the cylinder ) that the system needs.
theres only so much surface area, if you use one or make one luna make sure you make one of size to fit your systems needs.
One thats realitivly small can only hold so many anarobic bacteria, verses one thats of decent size can allow for huge room for the production of bacteria.
In the event your NO3's bottom out and you have a large reactor chamber, the bacterias will decrease or increase when NO3 levels rise and fall over time |

| Heres a Q, Can the coil denitrator be horizontal or does it have to be vertical? Luna |

| The Korallin use sulfur for there system to work and that and the sulfide gas is extremely acidic , And the smell is off the hook , I can tell you what the PH problem is and I think I have in the past , All of my tanks when they got a little age on them become exhausted and unless good aragonite was use and dissolved media has been replenished the tank is lost its ability to buffer the water .
Tanks with a good aragonite media will loose the carbonates and ca just like a ca. reactor does just takes a bit longer but the medias are all the same . And using a sulfur unit is backing up 30 yrs many have lost entire systems to them myself included . If its Ph you want to bump up ? Just add some borate to the system . that will raise the Ph and not the DKH that will remain steady. But your tank is getting a bit long in the tooth OTS is what you are experiencing . Congratulations on the condition not many ever get that far down the road. (: and for what its worth a Ph of 8 is not all that bad and if you are using a test kit you really have not a clue what the Ph is really
P/S yes they can be laid in a horizontal position I'd rather have mine standing vertical to ensure maxim contact of water and bio media .

| For guys wanting to DYI then I'll add this
Actually making the coil is the easy part . Takes about 4 Min's to make the coil and set it in cylinder properly making the cylinder is the hard part some do it correctly and other just do it (: |
