| What is sticking to my glass? Everyday I get home from work and I have to use the MAGFLOAT to clean the glass of my aquarium. I use to only have to use the cleaner probably once a week, but now if I don't clean the glass, then I can't see through clearly. At first I thought it was water quality, so I have completed two different 10% water changes and that doesn't seem to help. I then thought it was water flow, but even if I direct my Maxi-jets AT the glass, it will still get DIRTY. I checked my water parameters and everything is within range.
At first I thought it was ALGAE, but when I am MAGFLOATing it off, the "dirt" just floats off like a brown POWDER looking substance. Is it just literally "dirt" or is there something else that I can do to prevent this from accumulating on my glass?

| | 3reef Moderator | I believe it is still algae, just brown algae. Perform the normal algae reducing measures, such as, Increase frequency of water changes, reduce feeding amounts, decrease photo period, Ensure all bulbs have not passed their life span.

| Brown algae, cyano. It's algae. Re-check your params as phosphates will let pest algea thrive. Keep on the water changes, 1 or 2 water changes isn't gonna make it go away.

| I went through a bloom of that stuff when I put my new lights in service. It'll run its course most likely. If your not using ro/di water, you're most likely feeding this stuff more nutrients (assuming there's phosphates in your city water) It went away in 3-4 weeks for me. |

| Sounds like cyano bacteria...not an algae. You can try ChemiClean or Red Slime Remover.

| Silicates will also let pest algae's thrive. Try running carbon or like mentioned below, ChemiClean to polish the water a bit. |
