Hi,
I started out using the gallon jugs of drinking water from walmart also. At first they stated on the tag that they were reverse osmosis treated. Later this was no longer on the tag, just ro etc.. , and I was afraid to keep using it, so started looking for alternatives. Luckily since my LFS is not close by, my walmart here has a culligan water station inside. I purchased 4 - 5 gallon containers from them, and the refills are only .25 per gallon. It is Reverse Osmosis treated etc..They also have smaller jugs available. I have been using this water for 3 years now, and it seems to me that my reef has never been healthier. I'm very happy with it! Not all the walmarts here have this, but several do. So maybe if you ask at yours, they can locate one for you. Its also a good conversation starter..Everyone who walks by stops to ask why your purchasing a buggy full of water!
Good luck !
