| Test Kit Color Test! Playing around with a test kit again recently made me realize how subjective and prone to error people's results can be!
A lot depends on your EYES.
I am not good with colors so I have Laine back up my findings first. But still... does it bother you a bit too?
Check out this pic I took of my nitrites with a Sea Chem test shortly after I set up my hex.
What would you say it is? [smiley=stars.gif] |

| Re: Test Kit Color Test! I would say it was a little over 1. But, you are absolutely right about tests, they are very subjective.
Any tests that you take regularly are probably going to be your more accurate ones, simply because you are used to looking for a certain color. But, as your test shows, Matt, a LOT is open to interpretation.
I wish they could give us digital tests. But, that would cost a fortune!!! [smiley=greedy.gif] [smiley=devilish.gif]

| Re: Test Kit Color Test! I agree it looks like its between 1 and 1.5. Very frustrating due to the subjectivity. If you think about the cost of good lab equipment, maybe what we get for less than $25 isn't so bad after all, eh? _________ Just tryin to recreate God's perfection in a glass bowl. 20 Gallon Reef W/Live Rock, mated pair of Maroon Clowns, Softies, 110 watts PC 10,000k lighting, and skimmer. |

Wow. If you were to tell me it was off the scale I would believe you, that's how bad I am with this.
As for digital, I am with you buddy I want one just for this reason! [smiley=thumbs_up1.gif]
In fact, that is why I posted this digital one a while ago: http://www.3reef.com/cgi-bin/yabb/Ya...num=1049352022

I find with all test kits the colour is very subjective as well as for the salifert Kits drip type tests when is the colour change complete and the readings final.
I guess the bottom line is most kits have drastic colour changes between a good reading and a bad. I have discovered that I'm all over the place with test kits from 4 different makers to fine the one I like to work with best.
