I'd try and keep it under 82 if possible. I've heard of people going as high as 84 without problems though.

Try using some fans blowing across the water to keep the temp down...

You should be ok but try not to let it get much higher.

Fans will do you wonders...

If you can prop your canopy open that will help as well.

Central or windo a.c ? Maybe you can repair or get it going again ? mid 80s like 84 85 but you need to add a airstone asap..

The warmer the water the less dissolved oxygen present

The warmer the water temp, less dissolved oxygen there will be in the water. The airstone should remedy that. Also keep up the flow in your tank preferably at the surface to decrease surface tension and allow for better evaporation. This along with fans will help keep things cool. Top off gradually with fresh RO/DI water (no salt) and things should be good. I think you should be ok if you keep it under 86. The highest mine has gotten was 84 with no ill effects. It is not so much the temp being a few degrees higher rather it is the speed at which the temp changes.

In the dead heat of the summer, my heater malfunctioned, and shot my display tank temp to 87deg for a couple hours until I noticed. I got lucky, and had zero losses..

I'm not sure if this is correct to do, but I've been doing it for years, if my tank goes over 80...I take an empty, 20oz soda bottle and wash it, peel the label off, fill it with water, then freeze it. It doesn't bring the temp down too quick and by the time the contents melt your tank will be cooled off. Also the fans help a lot! Do you run metal halides? If so, I hear they put out a lot of heat so you might want to limit the time they are on...just a suggestion that I'm sure you've already thought of...
