Default Re: Supplements!

I plan on just using kalk.

My last tank I used kalk, iodine, strontium and molybdenum.
The latter 3 only occasionally with the skimmer off for a day.

But I have been reading that they may not be necessary. Then again, they didn't seem to hurt anything either. [smiley=worried2.gif]

Maybe just kalk and water changes this time.

What are you using?

I am using all Kent...Part A & B, Iodine & Mag.

I have read a lot that sea salts do not have the required mag in them for the tank and that dosing it should help corals and coralline algae. I just started dosing mag a couple of weeks ago and the coralline is really taking off!

I use Kent's Iodine, Tech-M (Magnesium), Turbo Calcium, and a little Superbuffer from time to time. MacnReef is right when he says that reef salts do not have enough MAG in them. I read an article yesterday that was downright scarey. I'll see if I can find it. At any rate, start adding MAG and see what happens to YOUR tank!!!

I was also told once that you should use chemicals all by the same mfg. He said that they all compliment each other. I don't know that this is true but it has worked well so far!

Ive heard that Kent Marine is a good brand, but i also know that GARF (a great website) uses SeaChem. I was wondering which to use as both are at my LFS.

One of my buddies uses only SeaChem Reef Complete...Tank seems to be doing fine. Personally, I have only had one experience with seachem. I used the Calcium supplement on a 90g reef tank and after a few doses, the water turned completely cloudy and the calcium level was off the scale. I did not overdose, I think that calcium may slowly release so you may not be able to dose everyday, like I do with my kent!
