I woke up this morning and found my tank's thermometer at the max temp which is 84 degrees F. My room is very hot and im scared to lose the fish and coral. Anyone know how i can lower the temperature in a safe way?

i unplugged the heater to see if that was the problem.

Having a fan blow across the water at the top of the tank should help lower the temp a little bit. Your evaporation rate will increase however.

In addition to fans, fill some empty soda bottles with r.o. water and freeze them. Then float those bottles in your tank.

Problem is you have a eclipse tank right?? It was like my nano cube... Sealed up tight... Your gonna have to prop open the lid and get a fan aiming at the surface.. I mounted mine on the wall until I added a sump.... Also you could add a airstone if it has a rear chamber, but you will have to really watch for evaporation because this will be accelerated by the airstone..... Hope this help....

thanks a lot ill freeze some RO water and prop open my tank cover hope it goes down

Keep in mind that you'll be displacing some water when you float the frozen water in the tank so don't overflow the tank!

Yep...now is time to start freezing those pop bottles.

Check out fans and other cooling equipment.

Strongly recommend getting a temperature sensor warning device.

Available at local Petsmart...

I have one in both 125 and Nano tank.

DO NOT RELY ON FOR ACCURATE TEMPERATURE measurement. --- use regular thermometer to verify.

this looks like a good place to ask...how much temp variation over 24 hours is o.k.?
i'm going from 80 to 82. thats not alot imo but thought i'd ask

Not a problem...is wide swings 5 degrees+ over relatively short time that shock/stress fish and corals...

Once had a chart somewhere of temp swings on a Figi reef...but can't seem to find it now.

Was pretty amazing to see how wide the daily variation's were over the year...



In summer I keep temp at low end, 76-77 degrees to leave room for sure to come hot days. Fans hooked up and ready, pop bottles frozen in freezer, AC checked out and good to go...

But way things going now in PNW...may not get any warm days to worry about this year...

my tanks is in my nice finished basement. Temp is always about 60 dgerees down here no heating worries for me.
