OK Long story Short.... I have a 265 Gallon tank built into a wall and I have a fish room/ storage room behind the tank.I tried a back ground on the tank and hate it because i cant see what im doing from the back of the tank. It kinda defeats the purpose of a fish room behind the tank. Without a background you can see the storage room ( JUNK) behind the tank. What can i put on the back of the tank and still beable to work from the back of the tank? Any ideas?

Don't know the dimensions of you tank, but how about thin plexiglass sheets? You could paint one side a neutral color and just fix the top to the tank with a plastic hanger of some sort. Foam core posterboard will work too, but less durable. I would use 2 or three sections which would make them easier to handle, plus you could pull off only the ones you needed to do your work.

I paint all my tanks with a few coats black paints. You can always get facy and use different colors, but black works for me. Just be careful that you don't load up you paint brush because the paint will run down.

I just bought 30x36 .050 plexi at HomeDepot for about $11.00 per. Three sheets will give you 3 panels with about 3" extra at each end. Paint the backside of the plexi (Away from the tank with a foam roller made for very smooth surfaces and you will get a nice even color from the viewing side)

What about using a Mirror or some reflective material!

    1. The mirror would allow you to view the back side of the tank from your display area giving you a great effect of a larger tank.

    2. Your light that is lost will be reflected back in.

    3. Just looks cooler than some big black background.

The plexi is a great idea! I have also seen a removable wood panel mounted behind the tank. Mounted with thumb screws its easily removed. I also prefer blue backrounds instead of black IMO it shows brighter.
