There are many different kinds of algae and plants, all have about the same basic requirements....but it depends on what your plans are for the tank.Is this going to be in a display tank?Is this tank going to be a fuge or are you intrested in an algae tank,or are you planing to do a seagrass bed?
Knowing what your intrested in doing will help us alot. For instance, lighting over an algae tank can be much less than mangroves or seagrass.

Light, nutrients in the form of nitrates and phosphates and a good place to grow the plants, with a small amount of chelated iron!
