Maybe we should coin a phrase to capture the dynamic of exactly what's going on here. Afterall, we're not really LYING to our spouses, are we? Nor is it self-centered earmarking of family funds to squander on a hobby, right? I think when the significant other protesteth too much when it comes to our tanks we must stand firm. Our response must be to the point, yet non-accusatory. Our resolve unwavering.

I think this could be accurately labeled, "Reef-keepers manipulative syndrome."

One day if it becomes standard vernacular, I think the Oxford would define it as . . .

"Of or pertaining to the defensive retort when challenged with expenses or time taken regarding the maintenance, upkeep, or constant purchases necessary in the husbandry of the reef tank."

Besides learning how to care for rather high maintenane animals...reef keeping has taught me a thing or two about money laundering. Im now very good at "washing" the money i spend on this hobby without the lady ever finding out :)
