Here's my 55g reef, I decided to go with the U formation after having the wall of rock to start with. The width of a 55g can be a little cramped to work with but you can def do some cool stuff still.

I stacked without any glue or PVC, (if you go that route) just make sure all rock is secure with no "wiggle or wobble" to them. Use basic physics of larger rocks on bottom, etc. I also laid eggcrate under my sand that my large base rocks are firmly resting on. In case you didn't know what it is, eggcrate is a light diffuser normally sold in the lighting are at hardware stores (looks like this:http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_ULytuqY1uCE/TB-eSNndxeI/AAAAAAAAAO8/2C4RYoZ3PHE/s1600/eggCrate.jpg). I don't have any rock touching any part of my tank glass in the front or back. I know many do it withotu problem, but I'd rather not have any pressure points on the glass that my stack is pushing against.

Thanks, I just have one of those removable backgrounds got blue on the other side. I actually like certain shades of blue but black matches all my equipment, tank, and stand.

I added some tips in my initial post after the fact.

I picked up this Aquastik that I am supposed to be able to attach rock to rock with that will help me come up with something more exciting than a stack of rocks. Anyone use this before?
