| NO SMOKING!? I was just reading an old TFH magazine. In the salt solutions column this guy was asking about safe materials for a marine aquarium. In one part of the answer the author says "...most marine species will be damaged in rooms where cigarettes are smoked,..." I have never heard of this but I'm sure glad I quit smoking. Has anyone ever heard this? This came out of the March 02' edition in Salt Solutions tittled Questions of Safety and was written by R. Shimek, if anyone wants to reference this.

| Re: NO SMOKING!? I had heard something similar about using scented candles in the house. I don't know if there is anything to it or not. I would be interested in knowing for sure.

| Re: NO SMOKING!? I've heard it, I'm a smoker and my 90 gallon is in a room that I spend a lot of time in....smoking. No detrimental effects. I just make sure to not be smoking when I work in or near the tank. |

| Re: NO SMOKING!? Anthing in the air, scented candles, smoke, chlorine, etc. will enter the water column through the normal gas exchange and oxygenization process. Those things are not what you would necessarily find in a pristine environment.
Would be interesting to know the effect of volcanic smoke on the natural reef. There is a lot more water in a reef than your tank, eh? _________ Just tryin to recreate God's perfection in a glass bowl. 20 Gallon Reef W/Live Rock, mated pair of Maroon Clowns, Softies, 110 watts PC 10,000k lighting, and skimmer. |
