| My Tanks 1 Year Birthday My tank officially turns 1 year old today from when the cycle first started when I added a piece of raw shrimp 1 year ago. My tank has greatly changed over this past year, and I have learned and experienced a lot from his hobby. It is somethign I look forward to continuing in my future. Now about my tank.
I have a fully stocked tank now with my Purple Firefish, Occellaris Clown, and Cherub Pygmy Angel. I added the angel last, with the firefish first and the clown second. The tank has been like this for a couple months and everyone is happy. My fist and inverts health could not be better, and i haven't lost anybody besides a couple snails and a hermit crab. My lifestock is healthy, but I still have an algae problem. I also have a pistol shrimp who I have claimed to kill my fire shrimp who mysteriously disappeared a couple months ago. The fire shrimp was much larger than the pistol, but I am looking to get rid of him so I can buy a new cleaner shrimp. I rarely see the pistol shrimp, I have seen him about 4 times in the 10 months span I ahve had him.
My parameters have been where I want them since April. I have not seen Nitrates exceed two in a very long time, most of hte time its zero. I kept ph, magnesium, and calcium at appropriate levels all the time. I have yet to understand why I have continuous algae.
I tried a phosphate remover pad, and it hasn't done much since I added it a few weeks ago. The algae has stopped growing on the sides of the tank significantly, maybe becuase of the quick clean with the magnet, but i am glad it hasn't returned. Of all the algae problems I had in my tank, most of them may be gone, but they damaged my live rock. Once bright purple and an assortment of other colors, now dead algae and some uniqightful colors and other "things".
I am goign to try two more things to get rid of this algae. My New Ro/DI system and a stronger powerhead (Koralia Poerhead). My SEIO 620 was crap, its weaker than my maxijet 1200. If these do not help me, I am not sure what to do. The only things I can think of after this would be too much sand or the bulbs on my fixture are old (I bought hte fixture and bulbs in April.)
Goign to take some pictures too.

| Well, that sure is funny, I just started to have my algae bloom. Hopefully 11 months from now It isn't still all over my glass and rocks! I am just gonna wait for now, (while keeping the parameters good) until I take drastic measures to remove it. The small tufts of green "grass" looking stuff makes the tank seem natural! |
