Default My 29...

How it all started... I had this 29 set up a year ago with a hang on overflow but I got the bug for a bigger tank and ended up with a 180. Do to electrical cost and maint time, I tore it down and sold it. So I started on the 29. I drilled the back and now I will show progress pictures...

Sump

Overflow box...

More to come...

Looks great Mike. I wanted to cut out my 40G like you have done but was too chicken. Now I regret it.

So what did you use to drill out the back? and did you then insert a the Teath?

J

Default Re: My 29...

I used a dremel with a round diamond bit to drill a hole. Then used my rotozip (which spins at 30K rpms) with a tile bit to cut out the slot. Did it in like 7 mins. I then bought a piece of black acrylic and cut the teeth out with a jigsaw and my rotozip w/plastic bit. Then I siliconed the acrylic to the back of the tank. You should have done this, it was very simple. The scariest part was the overflow box. I made it out of 1/4" glass and it was pretty heavy and I didn't want it to rip off. But I made sure the water level was low in the overflow so the weight would be minimal. I drilled the holes in the overflow the same way I did the tank.

One thing left to do, drill the caps for the durso's. Then put a cover over the overflow to quiet it down and to prevent the splashing from the waterfall.

I also picked up a EuroReef RS5-2 last night and it fit great in my sump. I will get pictures of that tonight!

Very cool Mike.

not to high jack your thread.

I drilled 4 holes in my tank. 2 for over flow. I built and in-tank overflow box that covered the 2 holes then another box outside like yours. It works well but is alittle unsightly.

maybe when I move and have to break down my system I will convert it to something like yours.

I was wondering about that.
I put an airhose adapter in the hole in my cap but haven't put any hose on it, it's dead quiet as it is.

Looks good! Nice job with the overflow.

You didn't hi-jack...just talking about our tanks... [smiley=2thumbsup.gif]

Yeah, I like nothing being in the tank. Especially when you have a small tank like mine, space is a premium and some boxes take up a lot of space or just get in the way of aquascaping.

Yeah, suprised no one else asked on the other forums... Yeah, I will drill a 1/8" hole in each...should be fine then but right now it is silent. The only noise is from the water falling into the box.

Thanx! Yeah, I like the overflow box...pretty sweet. Wasn't sure if I would be able to do it, but it was easy.

Thanx...well bad news! I was bringing the tank inside without any help and I slipped and my leg kicked the drain line and broke the bottom of the box. Now tomorrow I have to rush out and get a new piece but and silicone it into place! [smiley=annoyed.gif]
