Mike,
Before you go, and assuming that you actually get to read this, how did the starboard base work out? Did it 'do' what you expected?

| Re: My 180g Starboard Reef... Man its good to be not fighting anymore. Since you are here. I want to say sorry to you and all of the mods again! I also want to appologize to your members for my rude comments.
Well, yes the starboard was awesome, within one week I seem drastic changes. Great color and the amount of detritus a tank can put out in a few days would amaze you. I was siphoning every other day. But starboard was great but I will probably go DSB...lol In my new tank, whenever I decide to set one up. I will just stay on proper grain size and sand bed kits.
Have a good night!
Mike

| Re: My 180g Starboard Reef... Mike,
Thanks for your comments here and I am sorry you have to tear that beauty down. I do admire your committment to family.
I know other reefers have had the same great success with bare bottom tanks and use Tunzes to keep the detritus in suspension and extensive filtration to remove it from the water column. This minimizes the cost of removing salt water through siphoning.
When you decide to get back into the hobby, I recommend you check out a 750 gallon corner tank that Mike O'Brien has in Seattle that uses the technology/methodology I described. I will be more than happy to put you in touch with him. _________ Just tryin to recreate God's perfection in a glass bowl. 20 Gallon Reef W/Live Rock, mated pair of Maroon Clowns, Softies, 110 watts PC 10,000k lighting, and skimmer. |

| Re: My 180g Starboard Reef... You guys are GREAT! Yeah, I fell terrible about two things, my actions here and my having to tear the tank down. The wife keeps getting a little upset. She said this morning, "the fish like their home, why are doing this to them". But she knows why and understands within a few seconds, but I can tell that she truly loves it.
I will be setting up another tank. I am actually slowly sneaking the idea back in of setting it up this weekend so I can keep my clams, frogspawn, heliofunia and my clowns.

| Re: My 180g Starboard Reef... Mike,
Keep in touch. A tank doesn't have to be another life. It is just a pet that has to be maintained like dog or a bird.
Cats, except for their litter, water and food, maintain themselves.
So could be said about a tank.
Come back here when you are ready.
Cheers,
Ray

| Re: My 180g Starboard Reef... I should only be out for a few days. I am going to set up a 29 (damn little tanks), oh well, low energy consumption, less maint time and same enjoyment.
