| Modification to Durso Standpipe I was wondering if the modification below would work?!...because of the relative height of the waterlevel in a standard overflow using the standard Durso design, wouldn't there be an issue regarding the turnover of water at the bottom of the overflow?
I do not have my tank running yet but wanted to know if anyone has tried or is will to try such a modifcation. I think the lower intake would need to be smaller than the upper, but I am not sure.
Any engineers out there willing to help out on this?!? Sorry about the poor quality of the schematic....

| Re: Modification to Durso Standpipe I think if you put the bottom one in,the top will barely see any water unless you have alot of flow or use a valve on the bottom intake.

I agree with John, dependant on the pump volume the flo would almostcertainly be taken up by the bottom one. I also think it would be quite noisy.
If the lack of water movement concerns you, just make the Durso shorter than normal :-)

| Re: Modification to Durso Standpipe The size of the intakes are just for illustration......I would think that the lower intake would need to be much smaller. Anyway, it was just a thought. It seems that it should be possible to allow some sort of flow from bottom, middle, and/or top.
Just throwing it out there in case there are any designers willing to take a shot at it.....

| Re: Modification to Durso Standpipe Yeh, I'm in agreement here. The overflow gets rapidly turned over. There is no need for multi inputs. The hobby is complicated enough. I'm a KISS person, myself.

| Re: Modification to Durso Standpipe Thanks Ray......
I will heed everyones advice. Never having operated an internal overflow before, it is difficult to envision the turnover of the water at the bottom while only draining from the top.
I did see a standpipe that had 3 holes (I think) but I don't remember who made it....I have to keep looking, I will find it. That is where the notion came from.

| Re: Modification to Durso Standpipe Good point!!.....and to that point, you can have a toilet on multiple floors connected to the same stack. I guess its the continous drain that makes the difference!!!
Thanks for the humor...I needed it!!
