I'm realy happy but I also have a feeling that I might have made a MISTAKE.
As some other members know I lost my 55gal. setup to disease from a new fish. The tank and stand were 20 yrs old and in poor shape.
So today I just got a brandy new 90gal. with buit in overflow, stand and canopy. This will be the 3rd attempt at salt.
So what I need from all that read this is a good rah rah session telling me why I should keep trying and all the satisfaction it will bring me.
Thanks to all that reply and keep my spirit up!

Hey there....

Keep your chin up. One of my favorite tanks in the world just had to do a [CTRL][ALT][DEL] due to a mistake by the owner.

Take it slow, ask a lot of questions, and move forward.

Look at this tank. Tank of the Month - July 2006 - Reefkeeping.com

I was there when he was discouraged and needed some reassurance. You can get here one day too.

A saltwater tank is really no different than anything that is important, desired, and of value in everyday life IMO!
You have to want it and have to work at it and in many instances, you will falter, sometimes more than once. That is life...that is how we learn as well!
What happened to your tank in the past is a terrible thing to you and your livestock obviously...however, if your heart is in it and you want to be able to replicate your own small piece of our vibrant and diverse reefs of the world, then do it and don't let past experiences and pitfalls deprive you of this, rather use the past as a learning tool, to make you successful as you start a new legacy in the salt hobby...combining this with increased research and reading to make you more knowledgeable and better apt to handle ups and downs without dragging you down!
Like anything else, first decide if this is in fact what YOU ultimately WANT to do...you have to want it for it to work-then go and get it...you can do it as look at how many 1,000.00's of reefers such as yourself have tanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!

DO YOU ACTUALLY THINK that we haven't had any problems along the way? I recently killed everything in my 75 gallon reef tank for no reason at all as my water was fine. Two of my Firefish killed each other, that was inevitable, I placed my 250watt halide pendant on the floor to clean the tank and left it there all night. Woke up the next morning noticing a smell and sure enough with my lights set up to a timer, my light melted a hole in the carpet.................I melted a fluorescent strip hood by leaving it under my halides for 10 minutes...One of my pendants got so hot that the glass it was resting on shattered and the whole halide bulb and all went into the water-I am quite surprised that I didn't start a fire or kill everything in my tank >the only thing evolving out of that little issue was an influx of Xenia growing and producing like crazy!
So do yourself a favor... and do it again...what are you waiting for? You did it before so you must have a desire to do it again so go...NOW---stop reading my post...>>>>>>>>

>>>>>>>you are still reading this, I know! I have nothing more to teach you at this time or blow some sunshine up your ---! Just get r dun and lets see that phenomonal tank you have always wanted and desired!
I can do it, you definitely can do it...
best of luch..TOM
oh by the way this session is $49.95. cash or check is available COD!!!LOL

I would also like to add to the best wishes...

If it was really easy, or just a matter of $$$, I don't think we would love the reefs we now get to enjoy as our own as much.

We have all gone thru self-created disasters...Matt could probably run a separate forum just on those.

But as costly as they were in both dollars and emotions - you learn and move on.

All the do's and don'ts you will ever need are available here on 3reef - people here got me thru some major fiascos and more importantly kept me from creating many more.

Take your time, go slow and your tank will mature as you do.

Good Luck!

Regards,

Om

Well if you choose or even no about the old fashioned /out dated way to cycle and bring a tank along then there are a few here that can walk you through it. It never fails but its like building a house you have to start with a soild foundation for it all to set on and it takes time and there are certian steps you have to follow and no short cuts. Or the foundation will develop a few cracks. Good luck.

hey man just two days ago i set a light on my tank to look in side of it went to the bathroomn and forgot about it about 5 min later i smelt burning plastic ran in there and my tank was in flames i am supprised it didnt burn the house down or completly ruin my tank thank god it was only a 8 dollar fix but it could of been a lot worse.... you have got to learn from your mistakes and just keep trukin otherwise u will never reep the binifits of your hard work... and ask a lot of questions as people here are glad to help you out... and remember the most important two things of saltwater are go slow if you think there is even the slightest chance you could go slower do it and while you are going slow research research and when you get done research some more... good luck and keep your head up bro...
