In fact, air stones will do very little to help the gas exchange. Large bubbles do more in that large bubbles disturb the water surface more and turbulence at the surface is the major way to provide proper gas exchange.
However, as mentioned, if the house is shut up and doesn't get enough fresh air introduced, then less exchange can occur in the tank.
Introducing fresh air to the area over the water surface will work but it still needs a fair bit of air to do the job, and, the air quality is almost instantly contaminated with the existing house air.
Simply opening windows/doors works also, but you lose the energy that has cooled or heated the indoor air prior to opening.
In my case, I installed an HRV which provides fresh incoming air to the household, and recovers the heat/cold (winter/summer) of the outgoing air to the incoming air.

Make sure you check for ant's nests and such before you bring in a plant from outside. I live in S FL too, and as you know, bugs are everywhere. I brought an outside potted plant inside one time, and surprise surprise I had ants everywhere after that. I ended up taking the plant back outside.

Maybe I'm missing the point here, but how does running an air conditioner cut down on O2, or increase C02 in the house?

I did not see anywhere on this thread that said how you keep track of your Ph ? if using a test kit then close is as good as it will get and then what time of day you are doing the testing , If its a monitor then it may need to calibrating ? they all will drift off .

As for added air stones I as someone who actually test my waters total dissolved 0'2 levels can tell you they do make a huge difference in 02 levels and helping with Ph levels and the smaller the bubbles from the wooden types I like will boil the surface of the far better .
I run air stones in my overflows and in the sump , In my corner overflows when I made the overflows I added a little internal column that I put the air stones into and they lift water up from the very bottom of the tanks bottom and from behind the rock work. I can cut off the air pump and see a decline in Ph and as well as the 02 levels will drop into a low ppm range. Like from a 9 ppm to high 7' to low 8 ppm range . Now with so many jumping on the higher salinity ranges 0'2 is even more difficult to keep up.
You can never have to much dissolved oxygen leading reason many fish get the rap as ich magnets or some corals people say should never be kept.. (:

Im guessing because you try to keep the house so sealed up in order to keep the cool air inside, there is little fresh air coming in (its being sucked thru the a/c and blown into your house, yes) but the CO2 is stuck in the house because it doesnt have any way to escape. Animals breathe O2 and convert it into CO2 when they exhale. So even if there is a nice fresh supply of O2 coming in, CO2 is still stuck inside for lack of an escape route.
Which is why some ppl suggested a plant, plants breath in CO2 and exhale O2

Im just guessing here, sound too at all?
