Just wondering if anyone has expierience with MelaFix in a reef Aquarium

Quote taken from www.jlaquatics.com

"MelaFix is an all-natural medication derived from the leaves of "Melaleuca," the scientific name for the tea tree.

The healing properties of tea tree extract has been known for centuries. University studies and extensive laboratory tests showed that MelaFix is an effective bacterial remedy for freshwater and marine fish.

MelaFix also caused rapid repair of damaged fish tissue and fins. New growth was seen in as little as four days of treatment.

- Antibacterial Remedy
- Rapidly Repairs Damaged Fins
- Heals Open Wounds And Ulcers
- Stops Mouth Fungus
- Treats Fin & Tail Rot
- Safe For Reef Aquariums And Live Plants

I have not used it, but there were some folks in my reef club that have and liked it. I like that it seems to be an immunity booster, rather than say, and antibiotic treatment that would harm the bio filter. If I am not mistaken, it does not claim to kill bacteria or parasites, right? Smells good too!

Hi Jason, I have used it before, But I used it in my QT tank.
It did work quite well but I was just to afraid to try it in my display tank. They do claim that it will not harm the bio-filter and it is reef safe, But I just couldn't convince myself to take the chance of using it in the display tank.

OK I guess I should let you know what I want it for.
As some read I lost a Kole Tang about 3 weeks ago. I was in a LFS and saw the most beautiful Juv Chevron Tang, I couldn't resist.
So I grabbed him. He is eating great and very active, but the other day he gave me a scare. I came down to the tank and couldn't find him. about a 1/2 hour later, after pulling rock out and checking my sump and the floor around the tank. I spotted him in the overflow. I was able to get him out but he looked pretty banged up. There are some pretty big Aptasia in the overflow and he didn't really enjoy being chased around by my fish net.
It's been 2 days and he continues to eat and race around the tank, but his fins and head are banged up. My goal for Metafix is to aid in the healing. I'm also using selcon soaked mysis and flake.

Can anyone suggest any other aid that will help in healing my poor little chevron

I hear that makes skimmers go bananas, so shut it down if you use that, or keep a close eye at least.

Well I opted for holding off on Medicating the tank. I figure he is eating and active. I will keep an eye on it keep adding Selcon to all foods

Thanks everyone
