Making progress with my Solana Cube After some setbacks from Hurricane Ike my reef is starting to take shape. I had the system setup and cycling when we lost power for 11 days. I did have a Generator so I could run the pumps several hours every day. Once I got power back I started my live rock install. Things have been doing well but I was given some bad advice from my LFS saying that I should do a 50% change every week from day one. Well I did which was not the best thing to do. After getting some good advice from 3reef I got the water in pretty good shape. My no2 and no3 are a tad high but are finally coming down. I stopped changing the water for a couple of weeks so the tank would cycle and it's now at that point but not after I started putting a couple of small fish and some live coal in. So far no loss of anything. I just did a 10 gallon water change and everything seems happy. I'll do another 10 gallons in a week. I removed most of the micro bio balls and am now using live rock in my sump with some Phoslock. With about 7 turbo snails they are cleaning up what's left of the brown algae and things are looking real good. I'm holding off on putting anything else in the tank for a few weeks to make sure everything is stable. I have attached some pictures of my progress, I think a better Protein skimmer may be in the near future. Wanted to thank everyone who gave me advice. My tank is a major eye catcher and when I'm done with it I think it should be bad ass. |
