| lost a good friend over the weekend I woke up on Saturday and looked over the tank after the light came on and to my horror I found my yellow tang dead and being consumed by hermit crabs. He was fine Friday night and was fine, my fiance however told me she had seen him the night before and his stomache seemed really full. I was feeding him nuri and occasionally I would put in Romaine if I was out of the good stuff.
I tested all water parameters and everything was fine and all other critters are doing fine.

| Re: lost a good friend over the weekend He was purchased shortly after I setup the tank back in December. So he only lived about 6 months. I hate it when things die without explaination at least if I new what happened I can fix the problem. He showed absolutely no signs of sickness. I guess just one of the things we have to deal with in the this hobby.
thanks for the Karma! |

| Re: lost a good friend over the weekend Yellow tangs can do that. It's possible that he died of malnutrition. I've never had any luck with using Romaine. Try Seaweed Selects or Dried Laver. It is the stuff used in making California rolls. Make sure it's the dried vs. grilled or any other prep.
good luck.

| Re: lost a good friend over the weekend Now I'm nervous. Am I mistreating my tang? I have never fed him seaweed or lettuce. I feed my tank frozen food, freez dried brine shrimp, and flake food. He seems to love life and grubs on everything I put in (he also grazes, and eat any alge I scrape off the glass). Could he be malnourished? Should I add some seaweed? I guess it couldn't hurt. Skennely, sorry for your loss.
