Looking for suggestions.

Picking up a 90g AGA with overflow on Saturday. I am still trying to decide what type of sump to put in. If I set one up today I would probably go with a DSB and live rock. If you have any suggestions or links to setups it would be greatly appreciated. Oh and the 90g is an upgrade to my 45g reef tank that has been setup for almost 5 years.

I would use a dsb and live rock a good skimmer and get the lighting cranked up. You may want to add a refugium at the same time as its is easier to build and adjust when everything is dry. I would also suggest to add an under the cabinet fluorescent light in your sump I won't put a setup together without one its an easy way to see and watch the workings in the sump area. They are about $15 and much easier then holding a flashlight. I also mount all my power strips high in the cabinet so they stay dry in case of leaks. I would put all your lights on timers much easier to regulate that way. i would also get tubs now and premix your water and salt so it is ready to go. I fill the overflow chamber halfway before filling the tank to check that the bulkheads are seated properly. Also you may want to pick up a piece of 1 inch PVC you will need it to connect the hose from the bulkhead to your sump AGA in their ultimate wisdom doesn't include this with the overflow kit. Oh I forgot are you moving all the stuff from your 45 and how are you palnning that I have suggestions if you need help.

Oh and the under cabinent light goes in the sump AREA not in the SUMP I hate forgetting words!

Thank you for the suggestions. Great idea on the light over the sump, wouldn't have thought of that. Have timers already and I am planning on taking the lights off the 45 adding them to my 120 and buying new lights for the 90. I am using power compacts right now. Is there any reason to not use the power compacts. I am planning on getting the lighting up to about 5 watts per gallon but don't know if I will be able to right away. Thanks for the info on the 1" pvc. I am planning on moving everything in the 45 to the 90.

I would greatly appreciate any suggestions on the transfer. My initial plan was to set up the tanks next to each other and set up an overflow from the 45 into the sump under the 90. Then put a pump into the 90 to pump water back into the 45. Once that was all set up and running I was going to add the sand into the 90 and then start transferring rock and corals into the 90. Then the fish and finally the sand from the 45 was going into the sump. I need to think this through more and believe this transition may have to take place over a whole weekend or longer. Don't know never done this before.

The transfer wont be taking place for a while yet. I still need to build the stand and hood. Luckily my wifes uncle is good with wood and actually made the stand and hood for my 120 and is going to help with this one also.

And yes I did understand the light did not go in the sump.

I just use 2 tap lights for in the stand I got them from home depot $2 each
