| To kill or Not to Kill I have a situation. I run a bare bottom tank. Detritus is created and needs to be removed for cleanliness. Unfortunately, the small blue feather dusters are clinging to the bare bottom and this crap detritus. I do not wish to suck up life while getting rid of the detritus. Am I being too anal in this quest?

some call me frank | Well, Frank..
If you are running bare bottom w/ no live rock, or are you ? I would think you are lacking in a Bio Filter that would get rid of this stuff naturally. Do you have any cleaner crews for spare food droppings and such ?
One way or another you need to clean the tank, if it isn't the tank itsself, then you need to perform maintenance. Vacuum would be too much I suspect. What I do is use a net and kinda swoosh around the area and scoop the floaties with the net.
\Good Luck

| if you produce more flow on the bottom of the tank then the particles will be free floating and leave the main tank to a different filtration system such as a filter bag

| Wow. Maybe I gave the wrong info! This detritus seems to come from the rock and/or circulation sloughing off the rock. My flow in the main 50G tank comes from a MG 950 and i have 4 Hydor Koralia #4's and 2 Hydor Koralia #2 for movement. With this movement I get this detritus. My question is: Life is Life, no matter how small. Is a feather duster small, on the bare bottom attached to some crap detritus worth anything? Tank is doing just fine.

| Those small FD are usually attached to something(LR), are they attached to the floor? If they are, they shouldnt get sucked up when you clean the floor. If the suction is really strong, just bend the hose a little every time you get near the FD's. some call me Luna _________ 9YR OLD 90G 30G w/d Mag18 150G skimmer 692w MH,yel&kole tang, foxface, midas&convict blenny,B&G chromies,Blk/yel fin chromie blackcap, nemo, neon goby,6line; Blastomussa Merleti,Acan ,BUBBLE,Torch,LTA, Goniopora(2), Acropora(2),Brain, Moon, assort zoas, yel& G star polyps, R&G open brain, P&B ricordia, montiporas, cup&candy corals, enias,B/G mush, flower ane(2), cherry red mussa, dusters, cleaning crew |

When you have so much control over such finite things, it gives some pause when it comes to elimination! Who is your master?
