yes and I haven't heard the clicking since, but there was no shrimp in the bucket after I was done breaking the rock up. Think he's still in there? Here's some pics I took of the claws..

good luck with that search! there were two different rocks I've put in within the last 2 months and I'm not sure how long I've heard it but I realized one day it was clicking. I broke up the rock I just got and found those claws, other than that no sign of it...It stopped clicking after that...Wondering if it's missing one pincher from each claw now LOL

Are there holes punched in the snail shells? If not, I wouldn't blame a mantis

I would hear the same "Snapping" noise mostly after the lights went out. I was sure it was a pistol or a mantis so I would randomly scan the tank with a high powered diving light to find the culprit..... after about a month of doing this down in a borrow going about 4 inches into the substrate I found two claws and antneye peaking out, one claw was bigger than the other so I knew I was dealing with a pistol shrimp.

I have been trying to catch the pistol shrimp by putting an angled glass cup in the tank with food in it (this worked to get hitchhiker crabs) but my cleaner shrimp always eats the bate up and swims out. Dose anyone have other ideas to remove the pistole shimp with out pulling the rock out, or should I just put my cleaner shrimp in a QT untill I catch the Pistole shrimp

Can either a mantis or pistol survive without part of each claw? I haven't heard it since I got the red claw and the white claw out. I have a camcorder that won't record but I can see everything in night vision, so I'm waiting for it to come out, if it's still alive...
