| I think i am giving up for a while I think I am giving up for a while my weekend started out alright. I was writing an article for this sight when my computer crashed. So no big deal I tried to start again on my other computer when I heard a wierd sound coming from my fish room so I went in there to find my skimmer going crazy. I checked everything nothing out of the ordinary water tested fine and such I go looking and all my sps is peeling wierd I thought so I testes again with another test kit. everything still toleratable the only thing I have done different is change a 250 bulb so I turned it off it was a little brighter then the other one had been 20k to 14 k and I turned down some pumps to let everthing flow for a bit. while I drained about 40 gallons of water and replaced it . nothing else I could really do. Well I went to bed all pissed I woke up about 4am sun morning
my monticaps where all snow white skeletons for sps and everything else was closed up amonia was a little high so I did another water change of 40 gallons
changed bulb back to a 20k and turned them all on all The fish where fine coming out and such anenomes where coming out leathers opened up some and thats how it has been since everything opened up a little more today but all the cap in the other tanks is melting now so I am going to drop a couple off the system and cut back to maybe my 75 and my mantis and remove my sump give it a good cleaning and see what happens I am so sick of stuff dieing for no reason when I started this I was going to quit but I feel a little bit better now. thanks for letting me vent. | Dude, I can relate. I painted my livingroom this summer and did not shut down my skimmer (forgot...I just forgot) everything bleached and lost a few, all my lps were infected with white stuff. Lost about half the sps on that weekend then afterdoing all of 3 50% water changes I realized that my tank was getting a algae dusting on the glass everyday so I thought my DI resin was bad. Ordered more and waited for it to ship to my door while everything turned green. Finally the DI resin came and tested at zero TDS so I did 2 100 gallon water changes with still algae problems....SH&%$T. Huh...it was the membrane that was bad so I just ordered a new RO/DI 100GPD unit and waited again for it to ship.......finally it was here and hooked up and had a defective membrane. Pulling out hair and looking at how much I could sell everything for.....I decided to call the place whee I got the unit (filter direct) they treated me really good and shipped me out a new 75 gallon per day membrane ( which work better then the 100gpd membrane as far as water purity output, saves you money for not having to refresh your resin as often). Got the new membrane and everything is great now. Did another 2 75 gallon water changes and everything is thriving now. Cost was a bunch of wasted DI rezin, 2.5 200 gallon buckets of IO salt, 115 bucks for a new RO unit, dead coral and bleached coral and handfulls of my hair pulled out. STILL I am glad I stayed with it. This is something I will always do. Reef aquariums, RC Nitro airplanes and Oil Painting. Just keep on working on your stuff. It will be back in shape dont give up. Think about it. Chances are you just wish you had reef tanks and start back up again. : )
Hang in there Aaron

| Hang in there. I'm pretty sure most (if not all) of the members in here have been in the same place you are in right now.....frustrated!
The only guarantee in this hobby is that "sh*t will happen"....we just have to deal with it and move forward. I had to restart from scratch only 8 months ago so I know how you feel.
Good luck |

| I recently woke up one morning to find the heater had burned a hole in the bottom of the trash can that was holding over 30 gallons of salt water! Can't tell you how I felt looking at 30 gallons of salt water on wood laminate floors! Felt like jumping off a bridge! But I (somehow) got it all cleaned up, floors are a bit "wavy" now but I still enjoy my aquariums and know it's only a matter of time until the next catastrophe. Poop happens...unfortunately! Kas |

I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure the rule is you don't mix those two. I've heard leathers are notorious for releasing toxins that are deadly to SPS corals... _________ 125 Gal Reef. | Rofl these are some funny yet sad stories. Just yesterday i overflowed my laundry room sink curing my DIY rock!. Luckily there was a drain in the cement floor. Still had to mop it up and re-dry some already clean clothes. |
