Oh, and Merry Christmas!
I just bought them a month ago. This is an ongoing problem though. The 2x54watt-10k's are on for less than 4 hours a day. I've cut them back. The 2-54watt Actinics are on from 7am-7pm and I've turned off the 8 led moonlights.
Green Algae all over the glass and rocks, almost looks like velvet. I scrape the next day it's back.
Small pinch of flake every other day.
Yes Mrs Wages. 2 tbsp to gallon let sit over night and use the clear not the white. The white gets rinsed out every time the 5 gallon bucket empties, and new water is made when the mixture is gone.

Merry Christmas to you too, Matt!!!

As I was scraping the walls of my tank tonight, I realized something. I wear a silver bracelet and silver ring all the time. They are sterling silver. Could the silver be causing the algae blooms? I don't stick my hands in the tank that often, but when I do it's usually for a few min at a time scraping. Hmmmmm just a thought...

Not likely your jewelry that's causing the problem.

Sounds like a serious algae problem Linda.
I am not big on phosban - I preferred the aluminum oxide stuff myself.

Have you tested for phosphates?

it really is Matt. Like I said before, I don't test for phosphates, because it's apparent I have them...in droves! Does anything else cause algae, when everything else in the tank is perfect? I switched from PhosBan to PhosLoc. It's what my LFS sells. I also did a few things. I changed all my filters, after scraping as much of the algae off that I could, and letting it collect on the old ones. Plus I temporarily put two knee highs with filter floss in the emperor. then changed all of them. I also used a product recommended by my lfs after explaining everything to him, that I've done or tried or do. This guy has a 200 gallon reef tank, plus he does everything for the store I go to and their tanks are gorgeous. The stuff is called API Algaefix Marine. I know nobody wants to use chemicals, but I'm kinda down on options....been there done that, if you know what I mean and nothing I did was making it go away.

I did a 10% water change. scraped rock and blew it off with baster. before all that too. added an old powerhead back to my tank. not sure if it was the one that was shocking the fish, but they'll get over it lol I doubt that little will kill them.

My flower anemone wasn't looking so good. He hasn't looked good in a while, so after all this I did, I pried him off his rock and moved him to a better local. he's looking better already. The fish a re a little freaked and keep swimming frantically up and down the sides. I think this is from the increased water flow. we'll see after a few days/ My foxface jumped so high, it splashed me on the back a foot away.

was this confusing? I did all the work then the filter change then the water change..... I confused myself haha

njdevilsfan, is that pretty much the same as a nudibranch? I've had them before and they end up getting shredded in my powerhead's and my engineer goby eats the left overs...

I use 6 stage ro/di and just changed all of the filters yesterday. I have an emperor 400 and an AquaC Remora. I keep my temp at 77F. I use 2 CupriSorb bags in two kneehigh's into each empty space in the Emperor along with the carbon/blue (filter material) filters. I use PhosBan in another bag in a small filter, just it's size. Replaced both last month.

I am beginning to think it may be my rocks. I am going to Lowe's this afternoon and getting Portland Cement and sand so I can make my own rock and start over with another tank. Keeping my livestock. I would need a QT tank for a couple of weeks, so I've put an AD on Craig's List and have gotten 2 replies. Neither has panned out yet. I ask about what kind of meds were previously used and what kind of tank is it. I'm not taking anything other than a 75Gal or up. That way chances are it was used as a saltwater tank. Can what I have survive in a 20 gallon tank for 6-8 weeks?

I do understand about the copper and phosphates. I realize that is what I have. I don't need to test for it, because it's apparent that is what I have. Now I need to figure out from where...

The plumbing in my house is all new pvc. I have a ground probe also.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated! I'm about to sell it all.

Hi Linda, hope you had a great xmas. I had the same problem when I over dosed on a Alk buffer. Theres not much you can do but wait it out and some water changes. Even though water changes dont do much on Alk, but it helps a little. How did you get Alk so high?
