Fraggin Star Polyp

Hello fellow reefers, my question is about my large mat of star polyp .Now in the center of the mat there is a large piece that has grown out and up now it is barely attached to the main mat it just flaps around in the current and has sprouts on it and there are sprouts all around it can I just cut that piece off with a razor and transplant it to a new spot? How will that effect the rest of the colony? I have no experience fragging corals.

Yup, you should be able to just cut the piece off and transplant it. The parent colony and the frag may close up for a few hours but if you don't squish the matt or polyps too much while fragging, they should be fine.

I just peel it off the rock then lay it on a rock until it settle in a rubber band will hold them also I like to use the 1x1 flat square plugs for them at our shop. But just peel and lift it from where it is then with a scissors or knife cut off what you want.

yep should have no prob with using a razor to frag you star polyp. ive seen it done by just tearing it appart by hand crude but they are very hardy.(I would recomend a sharp razor over the later any day thou!!
