Our floors in my parents house got refinished and the fumes killed my tank :( I am selling my stuff later today. I am just so mad no one told us the fumes would be that bad and if we had any animals. I had my tank for over a year and everything is gone :( I am moving soon anyway, so I guess the bright side is I don't have to worry about it. Bye 3Reef. (for now)

Did all your corals and inverts die too? I'm sorry to here that. I would be very mad as well.

Its also a good thing you posted to let other newbies know to be aware of this, that we may neglect the fact that the environment outside the tank can have severe impacts on the environment inside the tank.

If any veteran can chime in to let us know what to do to avoid this in the future when where using chemicals in our home that would be very helpful.

really sorry to hear this evan. gotta be devastating. its too bad you werent made aware of the type of finsihing they were using, or coulda set up a high powered ventilation system to exhaust the vapors. or maybe they could have used an alternative type finish on the floors. good luck in the future, and come back even stronger.

Yikes! I'm so sorry man :(

It's likely that the fumes themselves weren't toxic. A lot of fumes, even non-toxic, are thick enough to push air out of the house and starve your fish of oxygen.
