Never rely exclusively on these digital timers for accurate temp readings.

They become wildly inaccurate as probes become cruddy. Also as batteries wear down.

I do not think any have a very long functional lifespan.

Always verify reading with alternate source.

- caused loss of two fish and harlequin shrimp due to overtemp.

I do use the temp warning varieties on both tanks, but do not trust them for accurate temp readings. Have a normal glass thermometer for that.

I have the coralife Timer strip the one with the two day and two night outlets. Never have had a problem with it for two years. So what would be a good alternative to purchase if it does take a dump?

have had an analog one for a year now and never had a single problem with it. Have a friend that bought one of their clamp on Halide lights that took a crap 2 months after she got it. Called coralife and the sent a new ballast out within 3 days no questions asked!

Coralife dual daylight/nighttime analog timer is still working good for me after 6 months. Never got a drop of water on it, and I don't keep it under the tank over a sump where it's high humidity either.

Default Coralife Timer

I have had the digital and the analong ones. The analog ones all dies after some time. My one digital one will reset also if I plug any thing else into the wall outlet where the timer is plugged into. ALso you can not mount this timer vertically it needs to stay level (horizontal). Just go to petsmart and buy a new one and put yours in the box and return it and get your money back. Don't waste your time with the manufacturer. More trouble than its worth. Probably half of these timers are somewhat defective. I still use the digital ones also and I reset my one after every water change once a week.

Hmmmm, I wonder why the mounting would make a difference? But mine is mounted vertical against the inside of my stand.
