Default Cold Reef

Hey all, I was kickin around the idea of puttin together a cold reef with animals from the SF bay. I live nearby, and there are a few interesting critters out there.. Has anyone done anything like this? What am I in for?

It's pretty much the same scenario as warm water reefs except the temp. A chiller will be needed. I've done it before with octopus out of San Diego.

There are some neat strawberry anemones that stay small. When i was diving in the puget sound the anemones there are huge!!! (big enough to sit in) There are also sea pens that are cool colors, you wont need the bright halide lighting though, most of the stuff is filter feeding. There are some anemones that are photosynthetic, but for the most part the water is pretty murky.

my LSF here in monterey was running a cold water tank. it had only local critters, but man it was kool. but to be honest when you dive with all that stuff its not as kool in the tank. like the aqurium has lost its fun

and luna to answer your question, the water is usually 54-52 F. the water in the bay right now is 51 F. its cold

_________
