| Cobb web type slime Hello all, I noticed something in my tank. It was after I purchased my feather dusters and zoo's. I see this stringy slime, almost looks like cobb web string in different lengths, stuck to my assorted aquascape (fake corals, LR) never stuck to anything living in my tank, but not sure what is producing it. The end of the feather dusters are extending their tubes at the bottom using sand etc., is it a fluid they are producing, or something from the zoos? There is not alot, just a few pieces here and there, just now that I noticed it, its bothering me!
Also I was a little suprised at this too....every so often I would notice a very small piece of black plastic stuff...I thought perhaps that it was from the turkey baster I was using to flush the detrus etc...I found out last night that it was actually coming off my heater!!!! I do not have the name brand of it off hand, not at home....going to get another of course, but it was a good line, not a cheap one....Im assuming it wouldnt be made out of anything that would harm the tank...has anyone had the same issue before? Its pretty new, I got it around Nov-Dec....hmmmm...oh well Ill trash it! _________ 20 Gallon Reef Tank

| My heater did the same thing. It was the outside coating of acrylic paint or whatever it is they cover those things in. I just took it out and scrubbed the bejeezus out of it and put it back in. No problems since then. As far as the cobweb thing I get those in my tank as well. You can really see them if I stir the sand up. I wouldn't worry too much about it. Friend of mine told me they are there all the time but you can't see them until something sticks to them.

| Oh I know that is not what it is....it is free flowing silk type thread almost....not attached to the bottom, very very thin strings floating through the water....
I didn't think they were cause for concern, just wanted to double check...
Ya the plastic was the outside coating, same as what you referring to, you would think they would have thought not to use it if they preformed quality control tests....or whatever they do to make sure its aquarium safe...anywho, thanks for the reassurance! |
