I bought a used Current 1/3 hp chiller from a lfs store that was closing its brick and mortar location. The unit looks brand new still has the plastic on the control panel. Here is my question, the chiller will run for around 5 or 10 min and then shut off for about 5 minutes and then run again for around 5 or 10 min, so on and so on, is this normal for a chiller or did I buy a bunk unit? Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated |

Does it do it 24/7 or just during the day?

I just set it up today and it started doing it right away.

If your system was fairly close to the set temp when you started then I would say it could be alright, however.... If you have several degrees to go down and it is still on again off again, then you have an issue to hunt down. Do you run MHs? Check and see how it runs after lights out. There should be very little action out of a chiller at night. |

I was trying to drop the temp about 3 degrees and all that was happening was the on and off cycles. I do not run MH, I have PC's. |

Hmm, doesn't sound right. Try contacting the manufacturer and see what they have to say about it. Would the store you bought it from refund if it ends up being defective? |

It maybe short cycling out on high head pressure if you are pulling hot air across the coils ? or the controller needs to be set for say 79F and a 2 Deg. Differential setting ? and I think that controllers has a auto set on the cycle limit that you can change to keep it off on Delay if it starts to short cycle and how much water are you pumping through the chiller ?

I am running a Mag 7 to the chiller. Is that too much flow? How would I make the adjustments that you are talking about Tangster?

| Giant Squid | You need to check the mfg on gph flow, but I bet that a 700gph pump is way too much flow for your chiller. The water needs to stay next to the coil longer to bring the water down.
