I have caulerpa prolifera in my main tank and also in my refugium. Is this the kind of caulerpa that will go asexual?? or what ever you call it. I am also planning a Powder Brown Tang in the future, will they eat this type of algae? Thanks in advance for you help

ANY kind of Caulerpa can go sexual. *It's their survival instinct. *Some algaes reproduce by fragmentation, some by going "sexual", etc. * *

Typically, when you see a genus and species, the genus is in upper case letters and the species is in lower case letters. *However, when you see prolifera in lower case letters, it is not a particular species. *Likewise for varia or variagata. *There are many other shortcuts in scientific classification but I'll give you my recommendation and why.

Most fish will not eat caulerpa due to the various toxins, caulerpenyne, caulerpin, caulerpicin, and the Activated Defense System toxin of oxytoxin. There are a few fish that will eat it but very few.

Proliferate in English means to grow or spread rapidly....root Latin word is prolifera. *There are weeds called prolifera, bushes called prolifera, and on down the line.

Various in English means basically that several things can apply...root Latin word is varia or variegata.

Knowing that Caulerpa prolifera is going to grow or spread rapidly, I would highly recommend removing it from your display tank as soon as possible.
