Question carbon in when cycling

New to the salt water scene. I have a ? about carbon when cycling a new fish tank do you keep the carbon in the sump. from my over flow i have floss on top a drip plate another thing of floss then a bag of porcelain cylinders then i have a bag of carbon then a spung. The tank has been cycling for 2 weeks now. i know patience is a must I have been testing couple times a week. the reason why am asking if the carbon has anything to do with the nitrites. The reading am getting from my nitrites .3 or less..
I will be getting live rock this week and putting it in my tank

Thanks
Tony

i wasn't able to make much sense from your explanation of your filtering set-up, mainly because i haven't heard about a couple of the pieces of equipment you mentioned. in regards to the carbon, carbon is a medium used for promoting water clarity and it some cases neutralizing chemical warfare between corals. i don't see the harm in running the carbon nor do i see the benefit of running it during the tank's cycling. hopefully someone else can chime in with more information....

If you are cycling the tank with live rock, you will most likely want to run carbon during the cycle to reduce the odor that the curing rock will produce.
