| Bad news... Just returned from LFS who has supported me for last 7 years. (and vice versa)...
Seems he is just not going to be able to stay in business much longer.
Guess people are more concerned about any spare $ around going into gas tank in lieu of fish tank...
Laid off all help...selling stock at less then his normal ridiculesly cheap prices, just to pay electric bill this month.
Am really bummed out for him. He is really a nice guy who has been a great help since starting out.
Always had in back of my mind to buy him out one day if he decided to move on to something else...but in these economic conditions now would be really reluctant to do so...
Anyway, came home with a really nice BTA and some zoa's for $35.
Too bad my tank just does not need anything else. Am curious to see where the anem is going to squeeze itself in...
Would be a great time to be starting up a new tank if you had the cash...
Also noticed local craigslist is flooded with tanks and equipment for sale.
Not a good sign... _________ AG "125," AquaC EV 180, 30 gal sump, "SCWD", 80 lbs LR, CoralSeaLife "Moonlite" Hood, PFO 250W HQI Mini-Pendant (SPS HQI 14000k bulb)

| That sucks Scott, esp. if he's a "good" lfs and is honest. What are your other options? This "recession" typically happens right before an election. Should get better after Nov. | I agree with you all there... It's sad too because I've noticed many people who keep salt-water tanks are much more appreciative of the beauty of nature and they take WAY better care of their tanks than a lot of other animal-hobbies I have seen around... =)
I wish gas was back to $2 a gallon.... It's sad when someone my age (21) can say, "Gosh, I remember when gas was cheap."

Im not all that much older then you... I can remember my dad complaining about paying $0.98 a gallon. Im glad hes not around to see this crap.
I had a buddy of mine who went out of business that I supported for a number of years. When I heard he was going out of business, I went strait over there to see if there was anything I could do. He was talking about not being able to the gas bill for that month (gas furnace). He didnt know what he was going to do. LFS is all he ever did, his first job was in a LFS. Whats a guy like that to do? Uneducated for the most part and had been doing aquaria for over 30 yrs. Thats just a shame.
The other LFS here, the one I use to work at appears to be going out of business soon too. They laid off their manager and most of the other employees. The owner and 2 other people work their now. Its the only place to be quality livestock (retail)within 80miles. His business was started back in the 60's. He's another one who has done this all of his life. The original owner has since retired and sold out about 15yrs ago to the current owner who has worked in the store since the early 80s. I give them corals on consignment so they dont have to worry about buying them until it sells. I love the owner like a brother, and would do anything in my power to help him out.
To be in this business, you trully have to have a passion for it. If not, its not worth it. You could easily have a small fortune tied up into a system and something go wrong that was uncontrollable and lose it in a heartbeat. Ive been there. If you old skool reefers on here remember, I lost over 300 acro frags last year when I had a heater malfunction and boil the tank down to where it exposed the heater, the burst and electricuted everything. Total loss. But with some help from members on this bored, they hooked me up with some frags and got me back on my feet. We reefers have to help each other out from time to time when "life" happens. _________ Got Questions? Need Answers? "Believe those who are seeking the truth; doubt those who find it." Andre Gide |
